고산 원정과 극지나 오지 탐험은 코오롱스포츠를 늘 한계 없는 도전으로 이끌었다. 극한의 환경에서 탐험가들을 보호하기 위한 완벽한 기술이 필요했고,
끊임없이 연구와 개발을 거듭한 끝에 가장 상위의 테크놀로지가 집약된 의류 라인, 라이프텍(LIFETECH)을 완성했다. 라이프텍의 목적은 인간의 생명을 보호하고, 더 나아가
위험한 상황에서 구조하는 것이다. 어떤 위험한 상황에도 긴급히 대응할 수 있도록 여러 특허 기능을 갖춘 프로젝트 제품이다. 2006년부터 이를 위한 연구 개발을 시작한 이래
매년 더 높은 목표에 도달하며 기술력을 높이고 있다.
라이프세이버 Ver.1과 Ver.2는 스키나 스노보드 등 겨울 아웃도어 활동에 적합한 재킷으로 위급 상황에
대비한 서바이벌 키트가 포함되어 있다. 상처를 소독하는 알코올 스왑, 지혈 패드, 방수 밴드, 저체온증을 막아주는 핫 스틱, 야간 산행을 위한 라이트 스틱, 비상식량,
정수제, 나침반 등 안전 구조 용품이 들어 있다. 또 활동 시 생체 신호 측정이 가능해 별도의 연동장치로 정보가 전송되어 외부에서도 측정 결과치를 확인할 수
있다.
라이프텍 Ver.3는 세계 최초로 전도성 고분자를 이용한 발열체인 히텍스(Heatex) 원단을 사용한 혁신적인 재킷으로, 극한의 환경을 넘나드는 히말라야
원정에서 거친 필드 테스트를 바탕으로 개발한 제품이다. 라이프텍 Ver.4는 위급 상황 또는 야간 활동 시 원거리에서 위치를 파악해 효율적 구조 활동을 돕는 LED 라이트
시스템을 갖추고 있으며, 제품 곳곳에 스트레치 고어텍스를 사용해 활동성을 높였다. 또 신축부를 인체 동작에 따라 다양한 각도에 맞춰 분할해 활동성과 착용감을 극대화할 수
있는 특허 기술을 적용했다. 그 결과 한 겹으로 만드는 등산 재킷의 앞판, 뒤판, 소매판에 다수의 신축성 소재를 결합해 어떤 동작도 가능하다.
라이프텍
Ver.5는 발열 기능 내피를 갖춰 2008년부터 선보인 코오롱스포츠의 발열 의류 기술의 진보를 이룬 제품이다. 자연풍을 이용해 전기를 만들 수 있는 특허 기술을 적용해
오랜 시간 등산을 비롯한 아웃도어 활동을 즐길 때 랜턴과 GPS, 발열 원단에 필요한 전원을 충전할 수 있다. 또 ‘생명을 구하는 것’을 최우선 가치로 삼는 라이프텍의
목적에 맞게 구조 구난 수단과 관련한 특허도 획득했다. 카라비너, 견인 고리, 안전 고리가 있어 안전사고 발생 시 부상자를 이송할 수 있도록 설계했다. 시야 확보를 위한
후드 윈도, 구조 활동을 돕는 LED 시스템 등의 기능도 갖췄다. 라이프텍 Ver.6는 2006년 센트럴 세인트 마틴스(Central Saint Martins)와 디자인
협업을 통해 최악의 위급 상황에서도 인간의 신체를 보호할 수 있도록 설계했다. 라이프텍 Ver.7에는 가이드 라이트 장치를 장착했다. 팀을 구성해 등산을 비롯한 아웃도어
활동을 할 경우 부상이나 다른 이상으로 인한 이탈자가 생기면 LED 라이트 장치를 통해 주변 정보를 그룹과 공유할 수 있는 장치다. 또 자신의 몸 컨디션에 맞춰 운동할 수
있도록 돕는 다기능 LED 어레이도 장착되어 있다. 온도, 습도, 풍속 등 기후와 사용자의 심장 박동이나 체온을 파악해 오버 페이스를 하지 않도록 안내한다.
라이프텍
Ver.8은 비상 시 전자 기기를 충전할 수 있는 윈드터빈 제너레이터, 주변 상황 녹화가 가능한 라이프캠, 설원의 반사되는 자외선으로부터 눈을 보호해주는 폴리카보네이트
고글, 모스부호를 생성하는 LED 시스템 등 위급 상황에서 보다 빠르고 정확하게 착용자의 안전을 지켜줄 수 있는 기술을 적용했다. 라이프텍 Ver.9에는 고어텍스 소재 중
내구성이 가장 뛰어난 고어텍스 프로를 사용했다. 그 결과 온도의 밸런스를 유지해 쾌적한 상태를 제공하는 벤틸레이션 시스템, 위급 시 열 손실을 최소화할 수 있는 비상용
보온포, 3M 재귀 반사 소재 등 극한의 환경에서 아웃도어 활동을 하기 위한 기능을 갖췄다.
라이프텍의 혁신적 기술 개발은 현재진행형이다. 2023년에 출시한
라이프텍 Ver.10은 프리미엄 낚시 웨어 브랜드 웨더몬스터와 협업해 해양에서 조난 시 필요한 기능을 더했다. 코오롱스포츠는 이에 그치지 않고 라이프텍 재킷의 고기능성을
유지하며 심플한 디자인과 독특한 실루엣으로 차별화한 엘텍스(LTEKS)를 론칭했다. 끊임없는 기술 개발을 통해 완성한 라이프텍의 기능성이 도시형 테크 웨어 브랜드 엘텍스로
계승되며 이제는 도시 생활자도 기후변화에 유연하게 대응할 수 있게 되었다.
High-altitude expeditions, polar explorations, and treks into uncharted
territories have always driven Kolon Sport to limitless challenges. In the face of extreme
conditions, there was a need for impeccable technology to protect explorers. After relentless
research and development, they perfected a clothing line infused with top-tier technology, named
LIFETECH. The purpose of LIFETECH is not only to safeguard human lives but also to rescue in
perilous situations. It's a project product equipped with various patented features to promptly
respond to any emergencies. Since initiating its research and development in 2006, the brand has
been elevating its technological prowess, setting higher goals each year.
Lifesaver Ver.1
and Ver.2 are jackets suitable for winter outdoor activities like skiing and snowboarding,
equipped with a survival kit for emergencies. The kit includes alcohol swabs for disinfection,
hemostatic pads, waterproof bands, hot sticks to prevent hypothermia, light sticks for nighttime
trekking, emergency rations, water purification tablets, and a compass. Additionally, during
activities, it can measure vital signs, transmitting the data to an external device, allowing
results to be monitored remotely.
LIFETECH Ver.3 is an innovative jacket that uses the
Heatex fabric, the world's first to utilize conductive polymers for heating. This product was
developed based on rigorous field tests during Himalayan expeditions that traverse extreme
environments. LIFETECH Ver.4 is equipped with an LED light system that helps efficiently locate
someone from a distance during emergencies or nighttime activities. The jacket incorporates
stretch Gore-Tex throughout to enhance mobility. Additionally, a patented technology has been
applied that divides the stretch sections according to human movement angles, maximizing both
mobility and comfort. As a result, the front, back, and sleeves of the single-layered
mountaineering jacket combine multiple elastic materials, allowing for any movement.
LIFETECH
Ver.5 represents the evolution of Kolon Sport heating clothing technology introduced since 2008,
featuring a heating inner layer. It employs a patented technology that generates electricity
using natural wind, enabling users to charge power for lanterns, GPS, and the heating fabric
during prolonged outdoor activities like hiking. In line with LIFETECH primary value of ‘saving
lives’ it has also secured patents related to rescue and emergency measures. Features include
carabiners, towing loops, and safety rings designed to transport injured individuals in case of
accidents. It also boasts a hood window for better visibility and an LED system to aid rescue
operations. LIFETECH Ver.6 was designed in collaboration with Central Saint Martins in 2006 to
protect the human body even in the direst emergencies. LIFETECH Ver.7 is equipped with a guide
light device. When engaging in outdoor activities like hiking as a team, if someone gets
separated due to injury or other issues, the LED light device allows sharing of surrounding
information with the group. It also features a multifunctional LED array that assists users in
adjusting their activities based on their physical condition. It provides guidance by assessing
the climate, including temperature, humidity, and wind speed, as well as the user's heart rate
and body temperature, ensuring they don't overexert themselves.
LIFETECH Ver.8
incorporates technologies designed to ensure the wearer's safety more quickly and accurately in
emergencies. These include a wind turbine generator for charging electronic devices in
emergencies, a life-cam that can record surrounding situations, polycarbonate goggles to protect
the eyes from UV reflections on snowy terrains, and an LED system that can generate Morse code.
LIFETECH Ver.9 utilizes the most durable of the Gore-Tex materials, Gore-Tex Pro. As a result,
it features a ventilation system that maintains a temperature balance for comfort, an emergency
thermal blanket to minimize heat loss in dire situations, and 3M reflective materials, all
designed to support outdoor activities in extreme conditions.
The innovative technology
development of LIFETECH is ongoing. Released in 2023, LIFETECH Ver.10 was developed in
collaboration with the premium fishing wear brand, WeatherMonster, adding features essential for
maritime emergencies. But Kolon Sport didn't stop there. They launched LTEKS, which retains the
high functionality of the LIFETECH jackets but differentiates itself with a simple design and a
unique silhouette. The relentless technological advancements of LIFETECH have been passed on to
the urban tech-wear brand LTEKS. Now, urban dwellers can also adapt flexibly to climate changes.
